I was born in Cayuga and came to Wingham in 1950, there were twelve in my family, my Dad was employed by Spotton Memorials. I married Sharon Hodgins and we had two sons. I worked at Bateson's Dairy for 8 years. One time a bunch of guys threw the milk wagon in the river and another time in a swimming pool, I had to rescue them both times. After that I went to work for Beaver Lumber. I remember the day of the Beaver Lumber fire, I was at a ball game across the street my buddy hollered "HeyDewey" {my nickname} theres are fire across the street, I looked andBeaver was on fire, the fire got so intense that it caused the nearby railway tracks to melt and bend. The fire completely destroyed Beaver Lumber. I was assistant manager at that time. Another fire I remember was the time CKNX burned down and what was so amazing was that they were on the air again the next morning at 10.00 A.M..
After that fire I moved to Listowel with Beaver and worked there until I went Weiser
Plumbing and Heating and after started my own plumbing and heating business.
My son has taken it over.
